Role of Mineral Processing, Smelting and Refining in Canada's Critical Mineral Strategy

presented by Laurie Reemeyer, Principal Consultant, Resourceful Paths

Canada’s critical minerals strategy calls for integrated development of a wide range of critical minerals to support a low carbon future. However, over the last 20 years, mine and refined production of critical mineral and metal products such as copper, zinc and nickel have largely stagnated or declined. While there are some promising discoveries and development projects in these metals, the timelines for many mine developments are uncertain and the pathway to growing smelting and refining capacity is absent. This paper investigates the major environmental, technology and economic trends that have contributed to the decline of these base metals and associated byproducts, and potential pathways to renew the Canadian base metals sector.

Breaking Down ESG Barriers: Practical ESG Tips that You can Actually Use

presented by Suzanne Davis-Hall, Co-Founder, GENESG Consulting

The demand for minerals to support clean energy transition is surging. This growth has created a golden opportunity for junior exploration and development firms, while at the same time, the pressure to implement and report on an ESG strategy is growing exponentially. However, ESG has developed into a labyrinthine tangle of frameworks and standards, with constantly evolving terminology, making it difficult to navigate for those outside the field. This presentation focuses on how to get started if you're a junior explorer or developer and outlines a practical approach that will result in a plan that will satisfy your stakeholders (including your investors who are watching your spend) and that you can implement yourself without breaking the bank.

1:55 pm - 2:15 pm

Disclosing Risks and Opportunities in Reporting Mineral Resources: Importance for Project Financing

Dr. Abani R. Samal, Principal, GeoGlobal LLC

The mineral resource statements published in public reports prepared as per NI 43- 101 or, SK 1300 or JORC-like standards/guidelines are simply estimates of resources. These resources are always associated with potential opportunities to add more mineralized materials in the future and also a potential risk of not achieving the stated amount of materials. The project operators/owners and investors need to be aware of these. However, the assessment of risks is often undisclosed or, hidden risk profiles. This presentation will highlight how disclosing risks and opportunities in a transparent matter helps in protecting shareholders and operators from potential loss of value and at the same time encourages to use of scientific exploration and extraction processes for maximizing the value of the project.
